Last year I wanted to separate the backyard entertainment area. I wanted something practical, and decided to make divide it up with a Cedar Bench with planter boxes on the ends. The project took me the better part of a 3 day weekend. I constructed the frame with pressure treated 2x4 and have raised planter boxes on the ends. Bench actually consist of 2 different sections. I wanted to give access to the backyard without having to walk around (or jump over bench) the entire patio.

To finish I used 3" cedar boards attached with 1 1/2" stainless steel brads.

For the planter boxes, I purchased plastic boxes that fit inside my opening. This keeps things a bit cleaner inside and easier to maintain. Then I finished the top with 6"cedar with a 45 cut. Planted some perennials in each box and I was done.
